On a visit to the quaint village of Biot, on the French Riviera, I was inspired by the outdoor seating area of a restaurant tucked away near the village church. I had so wanted to have any kind of meal there because it had that special charm to it, but unfortunately it wasn’t open and I had to settle for a photo and the promise of maybe next time. The Fruit Vendor
In 2013 I was an artist in residence in Vallauris France on the French Riviera and visited many of the cities and villages in the area, and as often as possible the outdoor markets. In Nice the market sprawled for blocks with all kinds of food spices and gifts tempting me in all directions. This particular vendor with his striped shirt and striped awning above got my attention. I imagined by his expression that he wished for more than the few grapes and fruit that he had left so that he could sell more, and in the process gave me wonderful subject matter for my painting. The Red Chair
Cinq Terre Italy has trails that link five villages to each other winding around a terrain filled with scenic views of the Mediterranean Sea below, forests, rock walls, vineyards and olive groves. Sometimes the path goes past a house, and on this occasion one with a sitting area near a rock wall and olive tree that inspired this painting. *Signed, limited edition. St Paul Square
This is my conceptual view of the church square in St Paul de Vence France. This lovely town is one of my favorites and a tourist delight in the south of France. Vallauris Windows
I spent 7 weeks in Vallauris France as an artist in residence and developed a new style of expression based on the colors and brilliance of light that I saw all around me in Southern France. I got to see a lot while there not the least was the laundry hanging from the windows. I wanted to juxtapose the colors, the sea and the everyday in this composition.

Moustiers Saint Marie
By the time you get to the village of Moustiers Sainte Marie, sitting by itself near the mountains and canyons of south central France, you are ready for a cool drink, a tasty lunch and a bit of reflection. The streets wind through shops and galleries and past a river with waterfall and all around you are mountains and flowers. The village church is in a small square next to the market. Inspiration enough for this painting!
