Today I went to a show at the local Picasso museum and got inspired by the work of several artists. Vallauris has been a great center for ceramics and Picasso worked here for a number of years decorating ceramic vessels that he had made for him by a local pottery. His confidence is apparent in the vessels I saw and his marks are fluid and purposeful showing a strong decorative ability. He was instrumental in revitalizing ceramics in Vallauris and there are many clay artist who work and exhibit here, some of whom I’ve had the pleasure of meeting.

Tonight I will go back to the studio to work. My life here so far has been relaxed alternating between the studio, sightseeing and shopping. My room here is small but comfortable with a bed and wardrobe, and in another room is a table to sit and draw and then also my own bathroom. Besides me there are 3 women residents here and we share a common kitchen. They are all native Canadians, although one is now American and living and working in Alaska. We all get along just fine and have many discussions about art and clay.

Last night there was a small show of small ceramic objects at our little gallery made by artists from around the world, and some from former AIR Vallauris residents. I had the opportunity to meet a few local artists who are friendly and convivial.
